The Fundfax Fairraiser

Posted by: Mister Magoo on 06/23/2009 @ 06:59pm

Yup, I am spreading more news of charity goodwill.

Over at Hawtymcbloggy.com, there has been a recent post of interest. This charity appeal was created when 19 Month old baby, Marissa was diagnosed with infantile spasms. Her stuffed bunny Fairfax travels the world, sharing not only Marissa’s story but also spreading awareness of the serious pediatric epileptic condition that she, and other young children, suffer from.

Approximately eight months ago they pulled together for a community project titled Fairfax ‘n’ the Chief in honor of her father (who is a fellow Halo fanatic). Today, they're proud to announce The Fundfax Fairraiser, a very special fundraising effort that will benefit sweet baby Marissa and those that are helping her through this very difficult fight.

The Fundfax Fairraiser gives you, the passionate gamer, a chance to win some absolutely incredible video game-related prizes. For every $1 you donate, you will receive one virtual raffle ticket that gives you a shot at winning everything from a Kotobukiya Steel Spartan 12” Figure (covered in more Bungie autographs than you could ever begin to count) to an EA Sports Pack to an autographed copy of The Godfather II to one of dozens of games spanning across the various platforms.

So, you are interested in trying to win some cool stuff while helping out a worthy cause? Let’s take a gander at the things you just may find yourself the proud owner of when this is all said and done, and then we’ll get down to the nitty gritty details of it all. Click here to get involved.

Halo 3: ODST - Overview

Posted by: Bigstack14 on 06/05/2009 @ 05:38pm

Save Video: High-Res (right-click-Save As) Halo ODST Game Play

Halo 3: ODST is one of those games that was largely made as a service to fans of the Halo series. While that may sound like a backhanded compliment, it's not meant that way at all: during the E3 demonstration of the game, it was explained to us that this title is meant to provide players with an experience that not only fleshes out the franchise's story, but also serves to provide players with a new play experience that is exponentially more challenging than previous games in the series.

The game is set to include two discs: a campaign with an original storyline and a multiplayer disc. The multiplayer disc will include all 21 original multiplayer maps and three new ones, On top of this, the campaign disc will also feature the Firefight game mode, which is an unending set of survival matches for up to four players against random waves of Covenant forces. There will be five waves of covenant units per round, and the final wave is known as the "Chieftain Wave" because it pits players against up to four Chieftains. Accordingly, there will be three rounds per Firefight set, and there is no limit to the number of sets one can play: it all depends on how long you can survive, something that is increasingly difficult as more and more "skulls" (game rules that stack the odds against players) are activated.

ODST's story seems pretty compelling, too, as it provides an original viewpoint of events in the Halo trilogy that doesn't include the Master Chief in any way. Taking place between Halo 2 and Halo 3, the story follows a group of four Orbital Drop Shock Troopers who are involved with the battle of New Mombasa. After a spaceslip event occurs, players will have to find their way through the ruined city as the rookie member of the squad. This is made easier with the aid of the Superintendent A.I., which will help players as best as it can by providing directions and the like. During the exploration of the city, players will experience flashbacks that show what happened during the battle while the Rookie was blacked out. The game contains some extra nerd appeal, as Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin voice two members of the squad.

The campaign looks like it will provide a great deal more challenge for players, because the ODST characters do not have the same advantages that the Master Chief employs. This time around, health will not automatically regenerate, there isn't a motion sensor to check, and you won't be able to dual-wield firearms. At the same time, the troopers have some unique advantages: Visor Mode will allow players to have increased perception in low-light situations, and their pistols and SMGs are equipped with sound suppressors, allowing for stealthier combat.

Ultimately, it seems like Halo 3: ODST is going to provide those hardcore fans of the series with the game play they love combined with some extra challenge. The game is also going to provide yet another bonus for anyone who adores all thing Halo: anyone who buys ODST will receive access to the beta of Halo Reach. With a release date of September 22.
